بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ وَالنَّجمِ إِذا هَوىٰ(1)
By the Star when it plunges,(1)
ما ضَلَّ صاحِبُكُم وَما غَوىٰ(2)
your comrade is not astray, neither errs,(2)
وَما يَنطِقُ عَنِ الهَوىٰ(3)
nor speaks he out of caprice.(3)
إِن هُوَ إِلّا وَحىٌ يوحىٰ(4)
This is naught but a revelation revealed,(4)
عَلَّمَهُ شَديدُ القُوىٰ(5)
taught him by one terrible in power,(5)
ذو مِرَّةٍ فَاستَوىٰ(6)
very strong; he stood poised,(6)
وَهُوَ بِالأُفُقِ الأَعلىٰ(7)
being on the higher horizon,(7)
ثُمَّ دَنا فَتَدَلّىٰ(8)
then drew near and suspended hung,(8)
فَكانَ قابَ قَوسَينِ أَو أَدنىٰ(9)
two bows' length away, or nearer,(9)
فَأَوحىٰ إِلىٰ عَبدِهِ ما أَوحىٰ(10)
then revealed to his servant that he revealed.(10)
ما كَذَبَ الفُؤادُ ما رَأىٰ(11)
His heart lies not of what he saw;(11)
أَفَتُمٰرونَهُ عَلىٰ ما يَرىٰ(12)
what, will you dispute with him what he sees?(12)
وَلَقَد رَءاهُ نَزلَةً أُخرىٰ(13)
Indeed, he saw him another time(13)
عِندَ سِدرَةِ المُنتَهىٰ(14)
by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary(14)
عِندَها جَنَّةُ المَأوىٰ(15)
nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge,(15)
إِذ يَغشَى السِّدرَةَ ما يَغشىٰ(16)
when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered;(16)
ما زاغَ البَصَرُ وَما طَغىٰ(17)
his eye swerved not; nor swept astray.(17)
لَقَد رَأىٰ مِن ءايٰتِ رَبِّهِ الكُبرىٰ(18)
Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord.(18)
أَفَرَءَيتُمُ اللّٰتَ وَالعُزّىٰ(19)
Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza(19)
وَمَنوٰةَ الثّالِثَةَ الأُخرىٰ(20)
and Manat the third, the other?(20)
أَلَكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الأُنثىٰ(21)
What, have you males, and He females?(21)
تِلكَ إِذًا قِسمَةٌ ضيزىٰ(22)
That were indeed an unjust division.(22)
إِن هِىَ إِلّا أَسماءٌ سَمَّيتُموها أَنتُم وَءاباؤُكُم ما أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ بِها مِن سُلطٰنٍ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَما تَهوَى الأَنفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَد جاءَهُم مِن رَبِّهِمُ الهُدىٰ(23)
They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord.(23)
أَم لِلإِنسٰنِ ما تَمَنّىٰ(24)
Or shall man have whatever he fancies?(24)
فَلِلَّهِ الءاخِرَةُ وَالأولىٰ(25)
And to God belongs the First and the Last.(25)
۞ وَكَم مِن مَلَكٍ فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ لا تُغنى شَفٰعَتُهُم شَيـًٔا إِلّا مِن بَعدِ أَن يَأذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَن يَشاءُ وَيَرضىٰ(26)
How many an angel there is in the heavens whose intercession avails not anything, save after that God gives leave to whomsoever He wills and is well-pleased.(26)
إِنَّ الَّذينَ لا يُؤمِنونَ بِالءاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمّونَ المَلٰئِكَةَ تَسمِيَةَ الأُنثىٰ(27)
Those who do not believe in the world to come name the angels with the names of females.(27)
وَما لَهُم بِهِ مِن عِلمٍ ۖ إِن يَتَّبِعونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لا يُغنى مِنَ الحَقِّ شَيـًٔا(28)
They have not any knowledge thereof; they follow only surmise, and surmise avails naught against truth.(28)
فَأَعرِض عَن مَن تَوَلّىٰ عَن ذِكرِنا وَلَم يُرِد إِلَّا الحَيوٰةَ الدُّنيا(29)
So turn thou from him who turns away from Our Remembrance, and desires only the present life.(29)
ذٰلِكَ مَبلَغُهُم مِنَ العِلمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعلَمُ بِمَنِ اهتَدىٰ(30)
That is their attainment of knowledge. Surely thy Lord knows very well those who have gone astray from His way, and He knows very well those who are guided.(30)
وَلِلَّهِ ما فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَما فِى الأَرضِ لِيَجزِىَ الَّذينَ أَسٰـٔوا بِما عَمِلوا وَيَجزِىَ الَّذينَ أَحسَنوا بِالحُسنَى(31)
To God belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, that He may recompense those who do evil for what they have done, and recompense those who have done good with the reward most fair.(31)
الَّذينَ يَجتَنِبونَ كَبٰئِرَ الإِثمِ وَالفَوٰحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وٰسِعُ المَغفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعلَمُ بِكُم إِذ أَنشَأَكُم مِنَ الأَرضِ وَإِذ أَنتُم أَجِنَّةٌ فى بُطونِ أُمَّهٰتِكُم ۖ فَلا تُزَكّوا أَنفُسَكُم ۖ هُوَ أَعلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقىٰ(32)
Those who avoid the heinous sins and indecencies, save lesser offences surely thy Lord is wide in His forgiveness. Very well He knows you, when He produced you from the earth, and when you were yet unborn in your mothers' wombs; therefore hold not yourselves purified; God knows very well him who is godfearing.(32)
أَفَرَءَيتَ الَّذى تَوَلّىٰ(33)
Hast thou considered him who turns his back(33)
وَأَعطىٰ قَليلًا وَأَكدىٰ(34)
and gives a little, and then grudgingly?(34)
أَعِندَهُ عِلمُ الغَيبِ فَهُوَ يَرىٰ(35)
Does he possess the knowledge of the Unseen, and therefore he sees?(35)
أَم لَم يُنَبَّأ بِما فى صُحُفِ موسىٰ(36)
Or has he not been told of what is in the scrolls of Moses,(36)
وَإِبرٰهيمَ الَّذى وَفّىٰ(37)
and Abraham, he who paid his debt in full?(37)
أَلّا تَزِرُ وازِرَةٌ وِزرَ أُخرىٰ(38)
That no soul laden bears the load of another,(38)
وَأَن لَيسَ لِلإِنسٰنِ إِلّا ما سَعىٰ(39)
and that a man shall have to his account only as he has laboured,(39)
وَأَنَّ سَعيَهُ سَوفَ يُرىٰ(40)
and that his labouring shall surely be seen,(40)
ثُمَّ يُجزىٰهُ الجَزاءَ الأَوفىٰ(41)
then he shall be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense,(41)
وَأَنَّ إِلىٰ رَبِّكَ المُنتَهىٰ(42)
and that the final end is unto thy Lord,(42)
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَضحَكَ وَأَبكىٰ(43)
and that it is He who makes to laugh, and that makes to weep,(43)
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَماتَ وَأَحيا(44)
and that it is He who makes to die, and that makes to live,(44)
وَأَنَّهُ خَلَقَ الزَّوجَينِ الذَّكَرَ وَالأُنثىٰ(45)
and that He Himself created the two kinds, male and female,(45)
مِن نُطفَةٍ إِذا تُمنىٰ(46)
of a sperm-drop, when it was cast forth,(46)
وَأَنَّ عَلَيهِ النَّشأَةَ الأُخرىٰ(47)
and that upon Him rests the second growth,(47)
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَغنىٰ وَأَقنىٰ(48)
and that it is He who gives wealth and riches,(48)
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعرىٰ(49)
and that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius,(49)
وَأَنَّهُ أَهلَكَ عادًا الأولىٰ(50)
and that He destroyed Ad, the ancient,(50)
وَثَمودَا۟ فَما أَبقىٰ(51)
and Thamood, and He did not spare them,(51)
وَقَومَ نوحٍ مِن قَبلُ ۖ إِنَّهُم كانوا هُم أَظلَمَ وَأَطغىٰ(52)
and the people of Noah before -- certainly they did exceeding evil, and were insolent(52)
وَالمُؤتَفِكَةَ أَهوىٰ(53)
and the Subverted City He also overthrew,(53)
فَغَشّىٰها ما غَشّىٰ(54)
so that there covered it that which covered.(54)
فَبِأَىِّ ءالاءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمارىٰ(55)
Then which of thy Lord's bounties disputest thou?(55)
هٰذا نَذيرٌ مِنَ النُّذُرِ الأولىٰ(56)
This is a warner, of the warners of old.(56)
أَزِفَتِ الءازِفَةُ(57)
The Imminent is imminent;(57)
لَيسَ لَها مِن دونِ اللَّهِ كاشِفَةٌ(58)
apart from God none can disclose it.(58)
أَفَمِن هٰذَا الحَديثِ تَعجَبونَ(59)
Do you then marvel at this discourse,(59)
وَتَضحَكونَ وَلا تَبكونَ(60)
and do you laugh, and do you not weep,(60)
وَأَنتُم سٰمِدونَ(61)
while you make merry?(61)
فَاسجُدوا لِلَّهِ وَاعبُدوا ۩(62)
So bow yourselves before God, and serve Him!(62)
